CINE CONCERT GEORGES MÉLIÉSThursday 10th March 'A magician who put the cinematograph into a hat and took out Cinema' Edgar Morin To celebrate the 150th anniversary of Georges Méliés birth Cork French Film Festival and Ballymaloe host a gala evening of fine food, champagne, wine, cinema and music. What more could one wish for? Georges Méliés is one of the most amazing cinema personalities. Between 1896 and 1913, he produced, directed and distributed more than 520 films, most of which he even performed as an actor. Méliés was the father of special effects and the first to use the camera for fictional purposes and to tell a story using film sets. Through his knowledge of illusionism he invented cinema trickery much of which remains a key element in modern day filmmaking. Marie- Helene Lehérissey (Méliés great-granddaughter) and Lawrence Lehérissey (Méliés great-great grandson) present an exclusive cine-concert with a choice programme of Georges Méliés' short films illustrated as they were in 1900's by piano improvisations and narration. The original rolls used were found, restored and preserved by Les Amis de Georges Méliés. 2 Choice Menu Thursday 10th March Ballymaloe Restaurant 6pm Champagne reception & dinner Followed by 9pm Cine- Concert at The Grain Store Price 110 euro The Grain Store at Ballymaloe 7-8.30pm Fork Supper Followed by 9pm Cine-Concert at The Grain Store Price 50euro Dress formal- early bookings recommended.
