White Magic at The Argory

The Argory
There will be even more opportunities to enjoy the wonderful white carpet of snowdrops at The Argory this spring, as the property opens on Saturdays and Sundays during the month of February. From Saturday 6 February The Argory will open its gates for visitors to enjoy self guided walks to see the snowdrops in bloom and to buy snowdrop bulbs planted in pots. The first sight of the bright white nodding heads of snowdrops peeping through the undergrowth is like a breath of fresh air and a sign that winter is coming to an end.

The diminutive, white, bell-shaped flowers are always a welcome sight in the garden in the bleak days of February. Not only are they brave enough to cope with whatever the weather throws at them, but they are also the masters of subtlety. Their blue-grey spears perforate the damp earth, the shoots expand and release their delicate, dangling green and white bells. Snowdrops are very hardy and the colder weather, the longer the flower last, with some flowering in March. There is even a species that flowers in autumn.
Snowdrops, or Galanthus to give them their correct name, are the classic winter flowering plant, loved by everyone. When the snowdrops flower, can spring be far behind? Visitors will have the opportunity to see this white carpet along some of the paths on Saturdays and Sundays in February between 1pm and 5pm, and this year they are particularly beautiful.

As well as the snowdrops, visitors will be able to enjoy the Blackwater river walk which runs from Bond’s Bridge along the banks of the fast flowing river to join up with the existing path network. There are also gardens to ramble round so The Argory will be the perfect venue to shake off those winter blues.

After your Sunday lunch then why not come for a pleasant walk at The Argory and the revive yourself with afternoon tea in Lady Ada’s Tea-Room which will be snug and warm and full of home baked produce, a cheery welcome and a snowdrop special!! The National Trust Gift Shop will be open and there will be an opportunity to enrol as a member and support the largest environmental and conservational charity in Europe .

Gates are open at 1:00pm. Normal admission applies and of course National Trust members are admitted free. The Argory is situated near Moy and just 3 miles from junction 13 on the M1. For further information please contact the Property Manager on 028 8778 4753.
